Mandarin Chinese Success

Chinese class students Neha Jain won 1st place and Drew Korschun won 2nd place in the South U.S. Regional Chinese Bridge Competition.  Competition was held at the Chinese Consulate in Houston this past Sunday, April 22nd.  Competitors, many of whom have lived in China, come from 8 different states.   Competitors make a 2-minute speech on the topic "My China Dream,"  answer 1 random cultural questions, and perform a 3-minute Chinese culture talent act.  First place winner will represent U.S. in the World Chinese Bridge Competition in Beijing this fall;  2nd place winner has the opportunity to compete/observe in the World Chinese Bridge Competition in Beijing.

Success is shown daily in CISD through every avenue possible and for this accomplishment we'd like to than our amazing teacher Yuhsin Lee.

Last Round of TAKS for CHS

Please remember next week we will have our last set of days for 10th grade TAKS testing for Math, Science, and Social Studies at CHS.

We have a unique situation on this campus because 9th graders will not do state testing all week. If you have a 9th grader, they can arrive as late as 12:30 PM on Tuesday and Thursday. For Friday 9th graders must be in school by 10:00 AM. If a 9th grader arrives at their usual reporting time, he/she will have the opportunity to study or read in the cafeteria. Busses will run on their regular schedule and four and a half hours later for the late arrival on Tuesday and Thursday.

CHS will maintain a schedule after testing with all four classes meeting during the last two hours with the exception of no shuttle busses running on Tuesday through Thursday. We will not release a student during testing for appointments and encourage all students to be here the rest of the day for all classes. If you have questions please feel free to contact CHS.

We would like to welcome the newest edition of the Dragon Tribune to the internet. This edition has a news story about CSHS Principal Mike Rhodes retiring, a news story outlining the changes in the University of Texas at Austin admission standards, a personal story of a senior whose Spring Break helped her more deeply experience her family’s culture and history of sacrifice as well as student reviews.

We are so proud of each students effort and appreciate everyone's support in reading the edition.

Thank You

Our administrative staff would like to thank all of our students, parents and employees for your actions during our Tornado Warning on Tuesday. Each of our students efficiently moved to the locations directed and they were polite at the same time. In addition, or parents were very understanding of our need to keep safety a priority and stayed in a proper location inside CHS. Finally thank you teachers for working to get kids situated and being very patient.

While we have items we have identified to help this process move more efficiently in the future we are proud of our work.
